Lifestyle Art Society

Lifestyle is a group of LA artists all trying to make it somewhere.  It's a barter system, where they trade each others services, and in doing so get everything they need to get done for free.

It was started by Syd The Kid, members including all the artists she works with in the Guest House.  These artists include Odd Future, Patrick T.G., Tyler Morney, Branden Beatboy, Vince Staples, TNT, Fave Col[u]r, Taco Bennett, Jay, BB Scott, and Johno The Grouch.

SomeWhere Else

www.wearesomewhereelse.com
www.myspace.com/wearesomewhereelse

"WEARESOMEWHEREELSE.COM! WEARESOMEWHEREELSE.COM!" is what you'll hear them chanting while on stage, microphone in the hands of the 3 emcees, drum sticks flying through the sky at the hands of the drummer, wails coming from the amp of the guitarist, and smooth keys floating through the air thanks to the keyboardist.  They are SomeWhere Else, and they deserve to be known.

SomeWhere Else is a hip-hop/rock band consisting of 3 rappers (Lonnie Ro, Saint P, and Logik), a guitarist (Elvis), a drummer (Chris), a bassist (Jono), and a keyboardist (Jafet).  They met at the infamous Hamilton Academy of Music 2 years ago.  After winning an artist contest called Blastbeat, a program in which schools create a record label and bands from each school compete to win a trip to Dublin, as well as record deal with an Irish record label, they flew to Dublin, where they toured the city and performed for an audience eager to hear the winners of the competition.

Equipped with excellent stage presence, awesome lyrics, and a great band, these boys are on their way.  Unfortunately, they're not as big as they deserve to be, so that's where you come in: HELP PROMOTE THEM!  Go to their website, listen to their music, love it, download it, and spread the word.  Show support for the movement towards real music.

Adrian J. Photography

http://www.myspace.com/lilproblembabyram

Adrian J. Martin (also known as Adrian J., the photographer) is the best photographer the LA music scene has, and the youngest.  This 18 year old entrepreneur created Adrian J. Photography in high school by taking pictures of friends, models, and musicians.  Starting out, he'd charge only $25 for a 24 shot photo shoot, and at those prices, people were forced to jump on it.  From there, it could only go up.

Take a look at any LA jerker's myspace page.  Go to their photos.  If they're successful at all, 9 times out of 10, Adrian took their pictures.  Known and admired for his use of high saturation, natrual lighting, and cool effects, he is the top photographer in the LA youth network.

If you need cool pictures taken for a GREAT price of only $70, pick a location and get at this man.  Go to his myspace (the link above the picture) and shoot him a message.  Don't forget to mention who sent you ;-)

brandUn DeShay

Mr. Brandun DeShay - full-time rapper, part time producer, and active member of Odd Future.
Brandun DeShay is truly one of a kind.  Already, at his age, he's managed to take multiple styles of rap and hip hop, blend them, and contribute them to the Odd Future sound he's now helping to master.

I've had the pleasure of working with this young man a few times during a couple of his visits to Los Angeles.  His freestyle skills are like nothing I've ever heard before.  While at work, he's a perfectionist and he is, truly, his toughest critic when he's in the booth.  And for a "rapper/producer," his beats blew me away (you never expect a "rapper/producer" to actually be that great at both).  Credits go to him for Hodgy Beats' song "Memorex CDs" (featured on "The Dena Tape") as well as MANY others that few have had the advantage to hear (sorry haha!).

Everything I've heard so far has made my jaw drop in awe.  He uses a mix of rock/pop and hip hop to create his own style, similar to nothing that comes to mind.  He's lyrically superior to most and. on top of all of this, HE WORKS HARD.  He never seems to stop working, and that's a quality that's hard to find in people these days, especially artists.

To sum this all up, brandUn DeShay is SIMPLY DOPE.  Go listen.

Odd Future

What is Odd Future?
Odd Future was created to be a magazine.  The creator, Tyler, is a strange kid who can be found making beats, talking about the dad he never met, fornicating beavers, calling himself a dinosaur, etc. He's known to be different, but is also praised for his artistic abilities.  He's definitely one that stands out from the rest, and so is his music.
Contrary to popular belief, Odd Future is NOT just a music group.  It is a group of artists, from musicians to photographers, and they're all "odd" in their own way.
Odd Future has earned a reputation for being up on the latest trends in fashion and music, and are known as leaders/followers of the skate culture.  Members can be spotted in various areas of LA and Pasadena, and there are even a couple of out-of-town members, including Domo Genesis, The Super 3, brandUn DeShay, and Left Brain.
Primarily known for their lack of respect for rules and tradition, these guys attract followers like crazy. The amount of kids that wish they were a part of the pack is ridiculous.  The group inspires kids to push the limit and do what they feel regardless of trends, religion, or standards set by society.  They've decided to set their own standard, in which rules do not apply and possibilities are endless.

The thing I respect most about these guys is that they WORK HARD.  Don't think otherwise.  They're always working, whether it's designing something, making beats, taking pictures, writing songs, or roaming the streets making their name known, they never stop.  I think that's something more people should realize.
Don't forget the name.  They're moving.

This 10 track collaboration will consist of 5 Syd-produced tracks and 5 Patrick-produced tracks. It's expected to be great based on the sneak peeks they're teasing us with, which you can hear on Syd Tha Kyd's myspace page.

From what I hear, the plan is to drop the tape with a release show somewhere here in LA.  The tape will be featuring members of Odd Future, Lux, CFP, Taylor Simonee, Lavish, and others, so all of them will be performing at this show.

It's expected to drop in December, so keep your ears open!

Lux

x (Luxury Billz) is a 17 year old singer/songwriter out of LA with a soulful voice that's hard to find in men his age.  His singing styles have been compared to Jamie Foxx and Tyrese; popular music with a hint of soul.  His untrained voice has the capability to bring tears of joy to the eyes of a crowd, and his joking personality and humor will do the same.  He loves to entertain as long as there's a crowd involved.
Add his years of piano playing and extraordinary songwriting skills to his voice and you have a star in the making.  He's been relocated to Menifee, California, but that doesn't stop him to getting back to LA almost every weekend to put in work in the studio.  This is a man who truly loves his craft and works at it every day.  He's dedicated to making it.  He has the right attitude and a personalty that anyone would love.
You can find him at Syd Tha Kyd's Guest House most weekends, laying down tracks or playing keys.  If you'd like to talk to this young man, don;t hesitate to get at him on myspace!

Hodgy Beats

The infamous Hodgy Beats - Odd Future member and rapping extraordinaire.  He's only 19, but his flow is already on a level of maturity well beyond many.  His music can be described as mellow, hype, and/or bizarre.  He can quickly put vocals on almost any track there is, and this diversity is one of the many qualities that sets him apart from his competition.
He started at a young age, rapping into a $20 Radio Shack microphone with his friends.  He hooked up with Tyler The Creator of Odd Future and the rest is, as many would call it, history in the making.
With the recent release of his mixtape "The Dena Tape," Hodgy's racked up many followers.  He's currently working towards his next mixtape, as well as shopping for record deals with major labels.  His ultimate goal, along with the other members of OF, is to get an imprint on a major label, name it Odd Future, and pull everyone onboard.  Once that happens, the possibilities are endless.
His persona says, "I'm cool and you're not, so shut the f**k up," but when you actually meet this guy, he's one of the coolest kids around.  He's humble to a certain extent, and he's [surprisingly] willing to rap on almost anything you pitch him.
I don't doubt for a second that he's going to make it.  He has the skills, the voice, the look, and the attitude.  With his eclectic style, he can set new trends and bring in a crowd.  He's the type of guy that people will look up to, imitate, and ultimately try to be, yet he promotes individualism to the fullest.
If you haven't caught wind of the Odd Future/MellowHype movement yet, it won't be long.  These guys are making moves and most definitely going somewhere.
Keep your ears open for new stuff from Hodgy, as he's constantly writing and perfecting his craft.  You'll see the finished product.

Syd Tha Kyd

Syd Tha Kyd is a 17 year old producer out of Los Angeles. She owns a studio that puts out quality good enough to compete with songs made in top of the line spots. She's usually sticks to just producing, but every so often you'll hear a song in which the beat credits go to her.
Most popular for her hit single, "Flashlight" [which she produced, wrote, and sang herself with a feature by Luxury], she's currently working with artists like the members of Odd Future and LA Bully Camp, CF Product, Luxury, Johno The Grouch, K. Ross, and many many more.  She's also working with a few producers, including Patrick T.G. and The Super 3.
She sells studio time out of her studio, "The Guest House", for only $10/hour.  If you're interested, check out her myspace page [above] and shoot her a message.
You can download "Flashlight" at the bottom of this page. And keep your ears open for "Brought To You By...", a collaboration between she and Patrick T.G., expected to drop some time in December.
